Community Development efforts by Pan Lanka
6 July 2021
With the hope of engaging in community development and in memoriam of late Mr.Gulam Abdulhussein, Chairman of Pan Lanka Travels, we had the pleasure of reaching out to families of visually impaired women living in the outskirts of Kurunegala. Generally, visually impaired community in Sri Lanka used to earn their daily living by selling Mushy Balls, Joss Sticks, Lottery Tickets, Bed sheets etc. These women are on a daily struggle due to the poverty conditions and it is worsened by their disability. Yet they display a great deal of courage.
Due to constant lockdowns imposed, these communities have been struggling to make ends meet as it impedes them from earning their daily wage. Pan Lanka , in their united effort, distributed hampers that consisted of dry rations among 350 families. This was carried out under the patronage of the Sri Lanka welfare organization of visually impaired women. We trust that this gesture would certainly help these women to provide for their families during these trying times and we hope to initiate similar projects in the future.
