Cycle Tour in the coastal village of Negombo

Negombo is the lesser visited or the short visited city of the discerning traveler. It would generally be the starting point or the farewell stop of your tour in Sri Lanka. Yet, this cycling venture could well increase the fascination that one may have for Negombo. It is aimed at exploring the local culture of the fishermen. The cycle ride commences from “Nainamaduwa” located close proximity to Negombo, the biggest fishing city of Sri Lanka.
While paddling along the largest coconut plantation of Sri Lanka, one could hear many anecdotes pertaining to the history of coconuts. Stop at a “Wadiya”, a temporary hut made by locals to witness the fascinating process of traditional toddy tapping. One could witness tappers move along ropes form tree to tree. After a short ride, stop to see the fishermen pulling the nets and daily trading of fish – the catch of the day. Then continue to ride to “Mahawewa”, a fascinating village to end the tour. As the trail lies through quite a busy, bustling roads of Negombo, accompanying children in this particular excursion, is not recommended.
